许多同学在英语学习中经常简单地认为，already只与现在完成时连用。其实，这是一种误解，而且是一种很有害的误解。事实上，在初中英语中，already至少可以与以下六种时态连用：
一、与现在完成时连用
表示一个已经完成的动作或已经存在的状态。如：
He has•read the book already．他已读过这本书。
By this time tomorrow I’ll have finished the job a1―ready．到明天这个时候，我将已做完这项工作。
二、与过去完成时连用
表示一个在过去的过去就已经完成的动作或已经存在的状态。如：
We arrived at the cinema late．The film had already begun．我们到电影院太晚了，电影已经开始。
By this time he had already made some friends．到这时他已经交了一些朋友。
三、与现在进行时连用
表示一个目前已经在进行的动作。如：
He is already working．他已经在工作了。
Her novel is reprinting already．她的小说已在再版。
四、与过去进行时连用
表示一个过去已经在进行的动作。如：
The train Was already moving．火车已经开动。
When l came in，he was already laying the table．我进来时，他已在摆桌子了。
五、与一般现在时连用
用于陈述目前的事实与现状。如：
The winter is already here．冬天已经来临。
Tom already knows the truth．汤姆已经知道事实真相了。
The baby is already able to stand up.宝宝已经能站起来了。
六、与一般过去时连用
用于陈述过去的事实与现状。如：
He already knew about it.那时他已知道此事了。
The teacher Was already in the room when l arrived．当我到达的时候，老师已经在房里了。
