阅读理解本部分共有4篇短文，4篇短文的总长度1200个词左右。每篇文章后设5个问题，共20道题。考生须在理解文章的基础上从为每个问题提供的四个选择项中选出一个最佳答案。本部分满分为40分，每题2分。
第三部分
词汇和语法结构本部分共设40道题，其中20道为词汇题，20道为语法题。每道考题中有一个空白，要求考生在了解句意的基础上根据词汇或语法要求在四个选择项中选择最佳答案。本部分满分为20分，每题0.5分。
第四部分
完形填空完形填空是一篇200个词左右的一般性短文，短文中有10个空白，每个空白为一题。考生须在理解短文意思的基础上从为每个空白提供的四个选择项中选出一个最佳答案，使短文的意思和结构恢复完整。本部分满分为10分，每题1分。
第五部分
短文写作本部分采用提纲、情景或图表作文等考试形式。考生应按照要求写出一篇100～120个词的英语短文。本部分满分为15分，考试时间为30分钟
以下谈谈各部分题的答题技巧：
一、单选题
考查覆盖面通常较广，涉及动词及动词短语、时态语态、从句、非谓语动词、倒装、主谓一致、交际用语等，这部分试题也很少是单个的句子，大多为并列句或复合句，因此我们应学会根据语篇知识来掌握答题技巧，尤其是要注意句子之间的解释、对比、转折、因果等关系。

二、完型填空
答完形填空题有一定的技巧。每一段会有一个词，是作者意图与你分享情感、态度、价值观的核心所在，一般来说，第一段说的是全文的故事，有中心概括全文，然后一层一层往下讲。所以第一段的题可以慢一点做。每一段第一句都有一个特点：是一个主题句，中间有一个名词。完型填空解题四步法原则：第一步：跳读。第二步：选答。第三步：推敲。第四步：复查。
应试技巧一：语境信息解题法：考生应具有通过上下文提示、暗示或铺垫，对篇章进行整体上的把握的能力。
应试技巧二：语法结构法：这类题需要考生能够从句式的结构上辨别出须填相关的关联词、连词、副词、形容词或相应的动词，当然还要考虑到主谓一致的关系等语法知识要点。
应试技巧三：复现解题法：这类题多为同义词、近义词和反义词的复现或同义词、近义词和反义词异形复现的形式。
应试技巧四：固定搭配解题法：这类题与语法结构题有点类似，但主要惯用搭配，讲究词与词的搭配，涉及到关联词、动词、副词、形容词、名词和短语等。

三、阅读理解
1. 阅读的启示：
① 短文中的一些难以理解的句子有时并不会对理解全篇产生很大的障碍。
② 把握文章结构，抓住文章的核心概念。
③ 踏踏实实地提高自己的阅读水平(70%)，并且要掌握一定的阅读方法和技巧(30%)。要能够分辨哪些信息要读哪些信息不读。
④ 考试阅读的最高目的：做题。阅读理解的重要原则：模糊中求准确。
2. 做题的启示：
① 排除了两项之后，要选择与文章中心相关的一项。
② 四个选项中有两项意思相反时，其中必有一个是答案。
③ 虽然是一道细节题，但也可以当成一道主旨题来做。
④ 类比、比喻、列举、举例的目的都是为了说明中心。
出题大致思路：为文章取个合适的标题或概况中心意思，作者的观点或立场是什么，以下选项与文章切合或不切合的是什么，关键词的替换，少量简单计算（增减等）题，要仔细看清题干问题，仔细找答案等等命题。阅读理解题要多阅读文章形成良好的语感，同时多做阅读理解练习，反复做，结合答案分析多思考形成自己的好的答题思路。
四、会话技巧、短文写作
要做好会话技巧题，要多阅读、多背诵各种场合的情景对话，特别是有些固定语句的会话要特别记忆，只有这样，才可熟能生巧迅速、准确答题；

A rapid means of long-distance transportation became a necessity for the United States as settlement(新拓居地)spread ever farther westward. The early trains were impractical curiosities, and for a long time the railroad companies met with troublesome mechanical problems. The high point in railroad building came with the construction of the first transcontinental,system. In 1862 Congress authorized two western railroad companies to build lines from Nebraska westward and from California eastward to a meeting point, so as to complete a transcontinental crossing linking the Atlantic seaboard with the Pacific. The Government helped the railroads generously with money and land.Actural work on this project began four years later. The Central Pacific Company, starting from California, used Chinese labor,while the Union Pacific employed crews of Irish labourers. The two groups worked at remarkable speed, each trying to cover a greater distance than the other. In 1869 they met at a place called Promontory in what is now the state of Utah.Many visitors came there for the great occasion.There were joyous celebrations all over the country, with parades and the ringing of church bells to honor the great achievement.
The railroad was very important in encouraging Westward Movement. It also helped build up industry and farming by moving raw materials and by distributing products rapidly to distant markets. In linking towns and people to one another it helped unify the United States.
